In May 2006, the use of the new ballpark was made official by the Minnesota state legislature. Design
Populous, a leading architectural design firm for sports facilities, decided not to create a model similar to vintage-style brick Camden Yards or modern designs featured in new Nationals Park, which are both designed by Populous. Instead, they designed the new Twins stadium using local limestone, heated field and heated viewing areas. There is no roof on the stadium; however, there is a canopy on the top deck.
